Catharni Stern (British, 1925-2015) Motorcade Bronze 24cms High, 82cms Wide, 31cms Deep On view at: The Sculpture Park Catharni Stern was born in Hampshire, and, after initially starting a degree in Veterinary Science at Liverpool University, she studied at Chelmsford Art School, and specialised in sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools. She later also taught at Bournemouth College of Art, and Southend School of Art. Much of her early work was created in an abandoned stable block in Essex, which she used as a studio. Stern had her first solo exhibition at the former Whibley Gallery in 1962. Later exhibitions include those at Ransom Gallery in 1977, the Alwin Gallery, 1981, and a major retrospective at Chelmsford Museum in 2006. Stern also received the prestigious Feodora Gleichen award for sculpture. Her work often has a realist aesthetic, and the present groups depicting scenes of modern life acted out by stylised figures are typical of her oeuvre
