Beschreibung:

Carved and Stained Wood Figure of a Blackamoor on a Pedestal Modeled in a standing pose with outstretched arms, the hexagonal base with acanthus leaves and Viking masks. Height 55 1/2 inches.
Restored. Areas of wear to the surface patina, notably on the arms. Evidence of break extending across both feet and the platform base itself. There is a large crack originating at the bottom edge of the robe on the figure's proper right side, which extends in an upwards direction up towards the hip and up the stomach area and then across the chest. There is a similar crack on the opposite side, which also extends in an upward direction, however, it appears to stop approximately two-thirds of the way up the robe/skirt. Some losses to the bottom edge of the robe/skirt. Abrasions to edge on the pedestal base. Does not appear to have been previously painted; there is only one area with traces of white paint, on the figure's forward right foot, located on top of two adjacent toes, which may be overpaint or paint drip; the robe has an area of old crusty patina (alligatored) that suggests the figure was never painted; no paint evidence on underside of figure either
