London nach 1924. GG 18 Kt. (geprüft) und Platin (geprüft). Schauseite besetzt mit einem als Biene geschnittenen Saphir von ca. 5,10 ct, entouriert von sechs Rubinkugeln in Form einer Blüte von zus. ca. 6 ct, zwei Smaragdkugeln von zus. ca. 0,20 ct und einer Saphirkugel von ca. 0,15 ct sowie begleitet von einem als Blatt geschnittenen Smaragd von ca. 1,50 ct. Das Zentrum der Blüte, der Blütenstängel und die Edelsteinkugeln jeweils besetzt mit 26 Diamanten im Old-European-Cut von zus. ca. 0,70 ct V.V.S-V.S., Weiß. Als Abschluss drei Diamantbaguetten von zus. ca. 0,15 ct V.V.S., Weiß. Gravierte Herstellermarke und zweifach bez. «1909/E/D/-».

«Tutti Frutti» - ein nobler Ausdruck für Obstsalat - steht für die farbenfrohen Farbsteinkreationen, die Cartier von 1924 bis Ende der 30er Jahre in unterschiedlichen Variationen schuf. Inspirieren ließ sich der 1889 in Paris gegründete Juwelier von gravierten Edelsteinen, die er in den 1920er Jahren in Indien kennen gelernt hatte. Man kann geradezu von einem Kulturaustausch sprechen, denn während Cartier für zahlreiche indische Maharadschas prächtige Edelsteingeschmeide im angesagten Art Déco-Stil neu fasste, importierte es zugleich aus Indien die Kunst der Steingravur in Verbindung mit Formen des Mogulstils. Auf Ketten, Armbändern, Broschen, Ohrringen, aber auch Dekorationsobjekten wurden plastisch geschnittene Steine nun in floralen Kompositionen verwendet.
Welchen Erfolg der «Tutti Frutti»-Stil in den Roaring Twenties bereits hatte, zeigen Aufträge der anspruchsvollsten Schmucksammlerinnen und Modeikonen wie Mrs Cole Porter, Daisy Fellowes oder Mrs W.K. Vanderbilt.
Während sich der Ausdruck «Tutti Frutti» erst in den 1970er Jahren etablierte, wurden die Arbeiten, die klassischerweise aus einer Auswahl von Rubinen, Saphiren und Smaragden bestehen, ursprünglich schlicht als «pierres de couleur» (Farbsteine) bzw. «multigem» (mit mehreren Edelsteinen) bezeichnet. Cartier, das neben der Pariser Zentrale in der Rue de la Paix, seit 1902 auch in London und 1909 in New York bereits Filialen eröffnet hatte, die eigenständige Kreationen im Rahmen der Schmucklinien des Hauses fertigten, gelang es durch eine Ausgewogenheit der Farbkombinationen verbunden mit einem Hauch Exotismus einen einzigartigen, bis heute unverkennbaren Cartier-Stil zu prägen.

Zustandsbericht:
Sehr guter Zustand mit Altersspuren. Geschnittener Saphir auf Höhe des Bienenflügels min. best. (0,5 bis 2 mm), ein kl. Diamant im Auge der Biene fehlt. Schatulle mit leichten Handhabungs- und Lagerungspuren.

Front set with a bee-shaped carved sapphire weighing approx. 5,10 carats, surrounded in the shape of a blossom by six ruby beads weighing in total approx. 6 carats, two emerald beads weighing in total approx. 0,20 carats, one sapphire bead weighing approx. 0,15 carats as well as accompanied by a leaf-cut carved emerald weighing approx. 1,50 carats. The centre of the blossom, the pedicel and each gemstone bead set with 26 old-european-cut diamonds weighing in total approx. 0,70 carats VVS-VS, wesselton. Below three diamond baguettes weighing in total approx. 0,15 carats VVS, wesselton. Engraved maker's mark and inscribed «1909/E/D/-» twice.

«Tutti Frutti» - a noble expression for fruit salad - represents the colourful coloured stone creations that Cartier created in different variations from 1924 to the end of the 1930s. Founded in Paris in 1889, the jeweller was inspired by engraved gemstones that they had come across in India in the 1920s. One can almost speak of a cultural exchange, for while Cartier was setting magnificent gemstone jewellery for numerous Indian maharajas in the fashionable Art Deco style, they were also importing the art of stone engraving in combination with Mughal style forms from India. On necklaces, bracelets, brooches, earrings, but also decorative objects, sculpturally cut stones were now used in floral compositions.
The success that the «Tutti Frutti» style enjoyed in the Roaring Twenties is shown by orders from the most discerning jewellery collectors and fashion icons such as Mrs Cole Porter, Daisy Fellowes or Mrs W.K. Vanderbilt.
While the term «Tutti Frutti» only became established in the 1970s, the works, classically based on a selection of rubies, sapphires and emeralds, were originally simply referred to as «pierres de couleur» (coloured stones) or «multigem» (with several precious stones). Cartier, which in addition to its Parisian headquarters in the Rue de la Paix had already opened branches in London in 1902 and in New York in 1909, that produced independent creations within the framework of the jewellery lines of the house, succeeded in shaping a unique Cartier style that is unmistakable to this day through a balance of colour combinations combined with a touch of exoticism.

Condition report:
Very good condition with signs of age. Carved sapphire at the level of the bee's wing minimally chipped (0,5 to 2 mm), one small diamond as a bee's eye missing. Box with slight traces of handling and storage.
