CAMPANA, G. Pietro (1727-1765). Di due sepolcri romani del secolo di Augusto scoverti tra la via Latina e l'Appia presso la tomba degli Scipioni. Rome: Alessandro Monaldi, 1840. 2 parts in one volume, large 2° (558 x 423mm). Letterpress half-titles, titles within borders of typographic ornaments, the first with an engraved vignette, the second a lithographic vignette, one lithographic headpiece, 14 hand-coloured engraved plates. (Some very light marginal soiling.) PRESENTATION BINDING of red morocco gilt, presumably Italian, covers elaborately panelled in gilt, the wide outer border tooled onto an onlaid green morocco ground, the flat spine gilt with an overall design incorporating the author, title, and part numbers, blue 'watered' endpapers, g.e. (spine very slightly faded), modern slipcase. Provenance : Grand Duchess Maria Nicolaevna, of Russia (1819-1876, m.1839 Maximilian, Duke of Leuchtenberg, letterpress ownership inscription on first half-title, armorial bookplate). A VERY FINE COPY, BOUND FOR PRESENTATION TO THE ELDEST DAUGHTER OF CZAR NICHOLAS I.
