Dovetail lump barrels with single brass bead front sight, signed in the narrowing smooth concave rib "William Evans (From Purdey's,) 63. Pall Mall, St. James's, London" with gold inlaid "2" over breech. Light engraving over breech. Underside of of barrel with serial number and proof mark, some old proofs visible under bluing. Action flats with Nitro proofs for 12 gauge choked barrels. Forearm with Anson release engraved with scroll, exterior iron with scroll and "2". Point pattern checkering at forearm. Interior of iron with serial number. Boxlock ejector action with engraved with scroll and lined floral borders. Floor plate engraved en suite. "William Evans" engraved on both sides. Double triggers protected by a flat profile trigger guard. Opening levers with gold inlaid "2", automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold. English style straight stock with sidepanels coming to classic checkered points, screw through sidepanel, point pattern checkering at wrist. Vacant oval at belly. Streaked fiddleback stock. CONDITION: Very good as rehabilitated. Barrels have been reblued, with some areas of roughness visible under the blue and some normal handling marks. Softening to legends as a result of the rebluing. Forearms are very good with checkering recut and an extra layer of varnish added. Receiver is good with several old areas of oxidation that have been cleaned, giving the receiver a spotted appearance. Trigger guard and bottom metal have been reblued, with some old spotting visible under the blue. Buttstock are very good with an added layer of varnish and possible sanding that have rounded sharp edges somewhat; wrist checkering recut. Trigger guard proud to metal. Action work appropriately when cycled by hand, bores are very good with some minor pitting throughout. Ejectors are in time. Gun was restored by Paul Hodgins in 2003 and remains unfired since that time according to our consignor.
