BRUCK, Jacobus à (called Angermundt). Emblemata politica . Strassburg: Jacob van der Heyden; Cologne: Abraham Hogenberg 1618. Small 4° (189 x 141mm). Etched title within an architectural border, and 54 engraved emblems. Title and a few emblems partly hand-coloured in gold. (Margins of title soiled, crudely closed tear in margin of C1, ink stain on H4 affecting a few letters, some spotting and browning.) Contemporary limp vellum, manuscript title on spine, gilt and gauffered edges (lightly soiled). Provenance : 2 old signatures on title – some old underlining and a few annotations in ink throughout – Christoph Wensel, Graf von Nostiz (1643-1712, initials C.W.G.V.N. on bookplate) – Michael Tomkinson, Franche Hall, Worcestershire (bookplate) – [H. Yates Thompson] -- A. Heywood Bright (bookplate). YATES THOMPSON - BRIGHT COPY OF THE FIRST AND ONLY EDITION . The plates are after Jacob van der Heyden 'engraved by M. Merian d. Aelter, according to some, by van der Heyden himself or Abraham Hugenberg according to others' (Praz p. 287).
