BROOKSHAW, GEORGE. The Horticultural Repository. London: [1820]-1823. 2 volumes, 8vo, 237 x 149 mm., contemporary blue stained calf gilt, rubbing to edges; library stamps on fly-leafs and on verso of 3 text leaves; plates 66, 70, 99 with marginal soiling and tear at gutter margin, plates 3 and 26 with short marginal tear, some captions just trimmed, (plates 51-104 are bound with title of vol. I, plates 1-50 are bound with title of vol. II). 98 colored engraved plates (number 1-104 as issued). Nissen BBI 245 (incorrect plate count); Dunthorne 56 (incorrect plate count). The title is slightly misleading since the work is entirely devoted to edible fruit and nuts. The work, issued periodically, was completed in July 1823: a notice of Brookshaw's death in Greenwich during the previous winter is given by the anonymous final edition in the preface. He goes on to say "It is hoped... that the present work... will... form a suitable monument to [Brookshaw's] genius and talent." The folding plates are numbered 27, 39/40, 43/44, 47/48, 51/52, 55/56 and 59/60. The complete sequence of numbering is 1-38, 39/40, 41-42, 43/44, 45-46, 47/48, 49-50, 51/52, 53-54, 55/56, 57-58, 59/60, 61-104, each plate with associated text, (no text for plate 56 was issued).
