Geese Landing on the Water, 250 x 345 mm, signed ("Allan Brooks") lower left and dated 1933. Both matted. Canadian ornithologist and wildlife artist Allan Brooks was among the finest bird illustrators of the first half of the 20th century. He provided the illustrations for Dawson's Birds of California of 1923 (see lots 12 &13), Taverner's Birds of Canada, 1934, and Phillips's Natural History of Ducks, 1922-26, and many other ornithological works. "The accuracy, quality, and appeal of Allan Brooks's bird paintings are universally appreciated. The knowledge behind [them] is immense..." (Shushkewich More than Birds p 107).
