Corfu in the Ionian Sea, resort spot off the coast of Greece and Albania and then part of the Venetian Republic. There are several sailing ships in the bay. This is a double-page plate from Breydenbach's Peregrinationes in Terram Sancta, which, when it was published in 1486, was both the first book to contain woodcuts by a known artist (Erhard Reurwich), the first printed illustrated book of travels, and the first book to contain folding plates.
