Contemporary calf gilt (upper spine end and corners repaired, light rubbing to joints). The atlas volume to Guillaume Raynal's Histoire philosophique et politique des establissemens et du commerce des europeens dans les deux Indes , includes 25 maps relating to North America. Since none of the title pages of the various editions of this atlas are dated, it is difficult to assign them to a particular edition of Raynal's Histoire. Sabin dates this edition 1782. The original atlas of 1780 has 28 pages of text. Several editions followed after 1780, incorporating three editions of the atlas itself. The second edition of the atlas contains 23 pages of text, the third edition of the atlas, which was used for the fifth edition of Raynal's history, contains 22 pages of text. See Phillips 652.
