Property of a Private European Collector ‘BLIND MAN’S BUFF’, A LOUIS XV GENRE TAPESTRY, AUBUSSON, FROM THE SERIES LES AMUSEMENTS CHAMPETRES, AFTER JEAN-BAPTISTE OUDRY CIRCA 1770 woven with ladies and gentlemen playing ‘Blind Man’s Buff’, within a four-sided frame pattern red and gold guilloche border with intermittent floral spraysapproximately 224cm high, 454cm wide; 7ft. 3in., 14ft. 8in. Tapestry is lined with linen. Velcro strip attached across the width at the top for hanging. Colours are uniformly faded overall. Some nice details and colour to the faces and attractive detail design to costume. The light colours have been repaired and faded in areas, especially to clothing, aprons and sleeves of light coloured blouses. Sky is stable, with old repairs. Borders with sections of later reweaving, for example corners. Some areas of small reweaves in areas such as the mustard area, centre between dress of lady and trunk of tree, and to areas of the fountain in lower left corner. Stable and ready to hang.
