BLEK LE RAT (b 1952) Computer Man, Signed Artist's Proof Hand-pulled Screenprint on heavy wove, 2008 'Computerman' first appeared as a street graffiti piece, 2006 in Paris. This early BLEK LE RAT, three colour Hand pulled Screenprint of “Computerman” was one of four screenprints which transitioned the 'Godfather' of Street GRAF art into the art world. This screen print was launched at the ‘Art Is Not Peace But War’ exhibition hosted by the Subliminal Projects Gallery in 2008. The show heralded Blek le Rat’s first extended US solo exhibition. Computer Man, 2008 is a signed artist's proof, initialed AP, print on Somerset wove paper and printed by The Black Rat Press. Signed to the margin and bearing the Black Rate Press blind stamp, 2008. The show heralded Blek le Rat’s first US solo exhibition. Blek le Rat or Xavier is a French graffiti artist. He was one of the first graffiti artists in Paris, and has been described as the "Father of stencil graffiti. British graffiti artist Banksy and Blek have expressed mutual desire for collaboration and in 2011, Blek was seen adding to a mural begun the previous year by Banksy in the Mission District, San Francisco. Blek's work is hugely influential to the present generation of street artists, as alluded to by Banksy, stating: "Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well. Only twenty years earlier". In 2003, Blek le Rat had his first solo U.K. exhibition in London at the Leonard Street Gallery, the Cans Festival in 2008. His American gallery debut took place at Subliminal Projects Gallery in Los Angeles in 2008. Blek also had an exhibition in 2009 at the Metro Gallery in Melbourne, Australia. In 2014, Blek le Rat exhibited at the Prestigious Quin hotel in New York City—as part of the hotel's Quin Arts program where he had a tenure as artist in residence. Other graffiti artists who held residence at the Quin include Bristol’s Graffiti artist Nick Walker.
