Moses Dickson Place: Kansas City, Missouri Publisher: Date: 1927 Description: Manual of the International Order of Twelve of Knights and Daughters of Tabor, containing General Laws, Regulations, Ceremonies, Drill and Landmarks Original cloth. Illustrated. 376 pages. Illustrated. Fourteenth Edition, greatly enlarged from the original 1879 printing of 253 pages. The Order was founded in the 1840s in Illinois by an A.M.E.Church clergyman as a secret society to help slaves escape via the Underground Railroad. Reorganized after the Civil War in Missouri as a conventional fraternal order, membership declined until the 1930s when the Mississippi branch began raising money to build a hospital in the town of Mound Bayou, which finally opened in 1942 with an all-Black staff.
