BIBLIA LATINA. Nuremberg: Johann Sensenschmidt and Andreas Frisner, 9 December 1475. Royal folio, 396 x 279 mm. (15 9/16 x 11), eighteenth-century German speckled deerskin over pasteboards, spine gilt, red morocco lettering-piece, blue-stained comb-marbled edges, paper index tabs., fol. 4/8 on a guard, cropping to headlines of approximately 10 leaves in quires 39-44, old marginal reinforcement to last leaf, opening page soiled and stained at gutter, a very few short tears to margins or gutters, last few leaves affected by damp, occasional slight mostly marginal dampstaining elsewhere. Collation : [1 8 2-19 10 20-21 12 22-27 10 28 12 29 6 30 2 31-42 10 43-44 8 45-47 10]. 458 leaves, without signatures or foliation. Types: 3:110 (text); 4:99 (prefatory matter and interpretationes nominum); Lombard capitals used in headlines. Double column. 60 lines of larger type, 66 lines of smaller type. Red printing: chapter headings, colophon and device on f. 428v, woodcut Lombard 4-line initials (numerous impressions of wood-block edges, in red). Spaces for larger (8-line) initials left blank. Rubricated: capital strokes in red, large flourished initial capital I on fol. 12r in blue. The second Bible printed in Nuremberg (preceded by Koberger's first Bible, 16 November 1475), a reprint of the Rome 1471 Sweynheym and Pannartz edition. The collation of this copy differs slightly from that cited in BMC and GW. H 3057*; GW 4219; BMC II 407 (IC 7847); Pellechet 2287; IGI 1644; Goff B-544. Provenance : Marginal annotations and scattered underlinings in two different contemporary or sixteenth-century hands; occasional underlinings -- "J Stoury[?] 1762 22 febr.", ownership inscription on first page. -- Eighteenth-century annotations regarding the edition on front flyleaf (verso), name? "Dyslum" on recto -- Frederick H. Rindge (1857-1905).
