WILLIAM MORRIS' COPY FROM KELMSCOTT HOUSE. Biblia latina. (Biblia cum postillis Nicolai de Lyra...).. Vol. IV (of 4, New Testament). Strassburg (Johann Grüninger) 1492. Folio (294x207 mm.). 378 leaves (of 384, lacks last 6 leaves), double columns, 66 lines, initial letters supplied in red. German binding of white pigskin over wooden boards, very worn, lacking skin, decorations of rolls-tamped borders, including one with classical heads. One metal clasp preserved, other missing, defective spine in six compartments, remnants of labels with manuscript text, blue edges. First 10 leaves with mendings in outer margin, some worming with loss of a few letters, some marginal dampstaining and some foxing. A few marginal annotations or underlinings. Some owner signatures on title, bookplates. In a new cardboard box. Hain 3169, GKW 4292. Provenance: Undated.17th-century ownership inscription of a German Capuchin monastery, and earlier dated private ones: 1614, 1615, and 1616.
