BIBLES -- (BIBLIA LATINA. Nürnberg, Anton Koberger April 14th 1480). (1), 461, (6) leaves. Gothic type, 51 lines to a page, double columns. First page with 15-line ornamental initial in blue & red, num. other initials supplied in red or blue, capitals touched in red or blue. Sm-fol. (329 x 255 mm). 18th c. (probably around 1738) full cf., spine raised in 6 gilt compartments including red label. (Binding a bit chafed, but in good condition, margin cut but ample, first leaf laid down and a bit dam. & soiled, stained in places (especially the lower inner margin at beginning and at end), lvs. 460 and 461 rather severely dam., minor worming in lower inner margin, marg. repairs to lvs. 2-12, sev. marg. annot. & underl. in old manuscript in places). estimate EUR 4.500 ¶ Incunable bible (Old and New Testament), together with Menardus's study of the contents of the Bible, the canons of Eusebius and the Concordance. Berkowitz, In Remembrance of Creation, no. 97: "Anton Koberger's printing ranks high among the early typographers. His Gothic type is beautiful, the ink a rich black, the page composed - all uniting to produce a distinguished example of incunabula printing." Koberger produced 15 Latin Bible editions of which this is the 6th. Owners entry on verso third blank: "Carolus Friedericus Dingelstedt (…) Halberstadii 1738"). This copy enriched by an early hand with 2 watercolour drawings at the end of the index and below the colophon; some of the larger initials also decorated by an early (the same ?) hand. - Latein.
