[Bound with]: The Book of Common Prayer Cambridge: [Buck & Daniel], 1638; The Whole Book of Psalmes Cambridge: Thomas Buck & Daniel, 1638. 3 works in one volume, 4 (230 x 168mm). Ruled in red throughout. Roman type. Engraved general title to bible, extra-illustrated with 88 engraved plates. (Margin of one plate torn and repaired, some margins close-shaved affecting red-ruling.) Early 19th-century blue straight-grained morocco gilt by Charles Hering, covers with decorative border of fillets and roll-tools, upper cover with centrally-placed crest and motto of the Crichton Stuart family, the spine in six compartments with double raised bands, lettered in one, date and imprint at the foot of the spine, the other compartments with repeat decoration of small flower tools, circles and pointill work, wide turn-ins with fillet and roll-tool decoration, brown watered silk liners tooled in gilt, g.e., binder's label on front free endleaf. Provenance : Crichton Stuart (binding); Aldenham Abbey (bookplate); Tempsford Hall Library (book label). A very finely bound copy of a Daniel and Buck's quarto bible with roman type. Herbert 521.
