Bentley Motors Limited was founded on 18 January 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley who had been previously known for his range of rotary aero-engines in World War I. After the war, W. O. Bentley designed and made production cars that won the 24 hours Le Mans in 1924 with following models repeating that success in June 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1930. Woolf Barnato acquired his first Bentley in 1925, just 12 months before he also acquired the business itself. With this car he won numerous Brooklands races and was a member of a social set of wealthy British motorists known as the 'Bentley Boys'. After being purchased by Rolls-Royce in 1931, production was moved from London to Derby and later to Crewe. Following on from the hugely successful series of T-series models, the next generation of cars also proved extremely capable. The Bentley Eight offered slight handling improvements and was so popular that sales expanded from the original UK market to Europe and the United States. Fuel injection and anti-lock brakes were added in 1986 with leather upholstery and power memory seats becoming standard in 1987. The sound example presented here is supplied in pale blue with a matching blue leather interior. The leather itself is in excellent condition throughout and the wood used for the dash is an elegant ebony style. The car has had seven previous owners, the last two of which were Stella Janes preceded by Lord Russell Janes. Their local workshops, Windsor Garage, looked after the car during that time with invoices available to view within the history file. A new 12 month MoT test certificate is also supplied with the owner's manual and Panasonic radio instruction book. Two Avon Turbospeed tyres have been supplied to the rear ensuring a perfectly straight and true ride. Always reliable and well looked after by the current owner, this sporting gentleman's express is offered at no reserve and sports supremely understated elegance.
