Autograph music manuscript signed, a song, 'The earth is waking at the voice of May', [n.d.], apparently a Stichvorlage , heavily revised (early versions scratched out, half page pasted over reverse of f.2), 5½ pages, 4to (yellowed, paper brittle and a little worn at margins). Benedict, who had been Carl Maria von Weber's first pupil, settled in England from 1835, and became something of an institution of British musical life, both as a conductor -- in particular of the Norwich festival and of the Monday Popular Concerts -- and as a composer of operas, songs, cantatas and piano works.
