Very rare map of the Austrian Netherlands. Map sheet from the German atlas by Johann Wilhelm Jaeger (1718-1790). The Austrian artillery officer and contemporary of Ferraris reorganised, after his military career in the gunpowder factory of his wife's first husband. Fourteen years later, its commercial success enabled Jaeger to buy the Frankfurt bookstore of Philipp Heinrich Hutter. Subsequently, the versatile entrepreneur also bought a paper mill while his wife ran the bookstore and was selling maps. From onwards, his private enterprise published the "Grand Atlas d'Allemagne" with large-scaled maps. At the end of his life he was considered the leading cartographic publisher of Germany; he had far outstripped the older companies of Homann and Seutter.
