XVI-272/273, not in Baudrier, nor Adams]; (ii) De Mysteriis Aegyptiorum ..., woodcut device to title, engraved initials, some leaves a little mottled, overall good condition [STC 235, Adams I 4, Cartier 539, Brüning 407, Lamoen 36, Caillet 5491]; both bound in contemporary limp vellum, wrapped in mottled paper cover, old paper label to spine, small 8vo The first of these works is by Croatian-born author Bartholomaeus Georgievitz who wrote a number of chronicles about the customs of Middle Eastern countries, after a turbulent history as a slave in Asia Minor before escaping to freedom in Europe. The present volume is dedicated to the Ottoman traditions and practices, and includes woodcuts depicting Mosque scenes and ritual cleansing, circumcision, the slaughtering of a lamb for the Bayam, and slaves being taken captive for war and their subsequent captivity.
