Parker Date: 1850 Description: xi, 352, [8] ad pp. 8vo, original embossed green cloth, spine gilt lettered. First Edition. Charles Richard Weld (1813-1869) was long the assistant librarian and secretary of the Royal Society and wrote an important history of that institution. He was also active in the documentation of Arctic travels, and his wife's sisters married Alfred and Charles Tennyson. The present work was the first of numerous "agreeably written" (DNB) narratives of "Vacation Tours." Bookplate of publisher and alpinist William Longman. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine faded, staining to front cover, hinges cracked; one leaf of ads at rear with corner torn away; else very good. Item number: 186795
