Evans, on Villino Chiaro letterhead, leaves creased and fingersoiled, mounting remnant to upper margin of p 4. Beerbohm writes a complimentary letter to the author of Nash and Some Others, a collection of short stories about the adventures of a group of ten-year-old boys. In part: “So far as I am aware, ‘Nash’ is the debut of the Board School boy in literature; and I can’t imagine that any future appearances that he may make under other auspices will not be anti-climaxes. I know nothing about him except fro you; but I feel that you have told me everything about him … though I am an ex-boy myself, I must confess that the nature of boys has always seemed to me less pleasant and attractive than the nature of any other kind of human being. And, perhaps because of this prejudice, the part of your book that delighted me most of all was the part where puelline [sic] influence was let in. ‘Calf Love’ is my especial favourite….”
