A PRE-WAR JOURNALIST'S LETTER FILE: LITERARY AND POLTICAL LUMINARIES OF THE FIRST HALF OF THIS CENTURY Frederick William Vile (d.1941) graduated from Notre Dame and became a reporter for the Chicago Record in 1898. Sent to London as a foreign correspondent in 1900 he was soon employed by the London Daily Mail as its Berlin correspondent. He wrote columns for that and other papers, and from 1923 a political column widely syndicated in U.S. papers. During a long and active career, he befriended many political figures, statesmen, authors and notables, who are represented in the archive.
