Each bead has been carefully shaped and polished by hand at Lightning Ridge, Australia, its place of origin. Some beads contain violet or blue play of color; some retain glowing inclusions of 110-million-year-old white claystone, adding tonal and textural variety as well as geological context. The central bead also assimilates black potch (common opal), the material at the heart of black opal. Between the focal pieces, 38 faceted opal beads in gray and blue-gray potch are inter-spaced with simple rondels of 14 carat yellow gold. The interplay of hues, shapes and textures in this piece, executed with rare opal material, produces a fascinating jewel of enduring beauty. 14K yellow gold beads and toggle clasp.
