Not only an extensive record of ancient Chinese, Japanese, and East Asian antiques in circulation prior to the Chinese revolution, the Yamanaka catalogs recall the seizure and liquidation of Japanese-American businesses during World War II. Prior to the liquidation, Yamanaka & Co. were preeminent Asian art dealers in New York, acknowledged by the New York Met as one of the main sources of its early Asian art collection. Four of the 6 catalogues have prices realized hand-written in margins. The catalog lacking these annotations is that for Chinese, Korean & Japanese Garden Sculptures from Sale 581A.
