Lot of 38. Includes one sixth plate daguerreotypes, 2 sixth plate ambrotypes, and 2 sixth plate tintypes (one with actual image represented in much smaller oval portion of plate), 7 ninth plate daguerreotypes, 7 ninth plate ambrotypes, 6 ninth plate tintypes, one sixteenth plate daguerreotype, 4 sixteenth plate ambrotypes, 6 sixteenth plate tintypes, one empty ninth plate union case, and one empty carte de visite sized union case. Highlights include a sixth plate tintype of a young bearded man with curly hair, housed in a Scarce geometric case [3-189G]; a pair of ninth plate daguerreotypes, one featuring a gentleman and the other, likely his daughter, with mat marked for Anson, housed together in a figural union case, American Gothic 2 [1-191]; a sixteenth plate tintype of an older woman, housed in a Rare figural union case, Indian Head [1-178]; and a sixth plate ambrotype of a young gentleman housed in a Scarce octagonal geometric union case [3-203] with scrap of paper reading, in part, "Jered Coburn / James Coburn / circa 1855 / Oquaka [sic], Ill - / Died in Boling [sic] Green / Kentucky..." Provenance:Marvin Lieber Collection of Early Photographica Condition: Images with varying degrees of wear and condition issues including spotting and darkening. Cases with varying degrees of general wear in cluding chipping and nicking to edges, corners, and raised surfaces, discoloration, limited functionality of closure clasps, loosening of hinges, etc. Carte de Visite sized case with heavier damage including one completely broken hinge and very significant chip to lower right corner of back cover.
