(8 7/16 x 5 1/8 in.), contemporary French ivory vellum over flexible pasteboard lining, covers with large gilt cornerpieces and central cartouche of raised strapwork and arabesques on a gilt-hatched ground, flat spine gilt-panelled in five compartments with gilt fleurons, g.e., ties lacking, head of spine chipped, lower margins of plates 62 and 67 torn away, affecting border of pl. 62, a few short marginal tears, some browning, mostly marginal staining and soiling . FIRST EDITION, ruled in red throughout, 96 leaves (including final blank), 30-page index at end, engraved architectural title by Pieter Huys small engraved head of Christ, 70 three-quarter page emblematic engravings of Biblical subjects, by J. and H. Wiericx, A. de Bruyn, and P. Huys, most after Pieter van der Borcht one after Crispin van den Broeck and others, set within a variety of separately engraved ornamental flower, fruit and animal borders (also used in Plantin's 1570 Latin Horae , Voet 1367-68: see lot --), printed on rectos, odes in italic type on facing versos.
