ANIANUS, Magister. Compotus... familiari commentario declaratus una cum figuris & manibus suis in locis auspicatu adiectis in quarum inucturis quique digitorum doctrina huius libri explanatur recentissimeque emendatus. Paris: Gaspard Philippe for Denis Roce, [circa 1500-1505]. Large printer's device on title, 8 full-page woodcuts, 2 large woodcut illustrations in text and 2 tables; Compotus manualis cum familiarissimo... Paris, Anthonii Bonnemere, 1530. Large printer's device on title and 8 full-page woodcut illustrations. 2 editions of the same work bound in one volume, small 4to, 18th-century mottled calf, some wear to joints; a few upper margins trimmed close, one title with ink notation (erased with ink), minor marginal staining. Philippe had published an edition in 1510 (Adams A1159). The above edition is possibly earlier since Philippe seems to have been working for Roce around 1500-1505. The first dated edition of the text was printed in Strassburg in 1488 and it quickly became the standard handbook, used by parish priests as well as laymen, for calculating Easter and other movable feasts. As the title implies, the hands and fingers assisted in reckoning, and most early editions contain woodcuts illustrating the method.
