REPUBLIC PERIOD (1912-1949)
AN UNUSUAL FAMILLE ROSE DOUBLE VASE REPUBLIC PERIOD (1912-1949) The vase is in the form of two conjoined vases: one a bottle vase, the other vase of square section. The bottle vase is decorated with two medallions. One medallion contains a pair of quail amidst rock formations, bamboo and chrysanthemums, and the other depicts an eagle perched in a pine tree. The medallions are surrounded by an intricate interplay of bats, chimes and lotus scrolls against a gilt-decorated ground. The vase of square section is painted with alternating scenes of landscapes and poetic inscriptions in black followed by two seals reading Qian and Long , below the shoulder with bats grasping peaches amidst floral scrolls reserved on a ruby-red ground. The neck is further decorated with floral scrolls reserved on a pale lime-green ground. The base of each vase is inscribed with an iron-red Qianlong seal mark reserved on a turquoise-enamel ground. 7 5/16 in. (18.6 cm.) high
