AN OAK PANEL-BACK OPEN ARMCHAIR, the rectangular back with scroll finial and ears above geometric holly and bog oak inlay centred by a lozenge incised IHS and flanked by 1603 IR, stiles with similar oak inlay, with down-scrolled arms on turned and fluted supports, scrolling foliate apron and on turned baluster legs joined by a moulded box-stretcher, basically 17th Century, the back legs and stiles replaced, the reverse with label of MUIRHEAD MOFFAT & CO./132-136 BLYTHWOOD STREET GLASGOW, C.2 inscribed in ink Fine oak chair dated 1601 and initials I.R.James Rex. from Glastonbury Cathedral , 17th Century and later
