AN ITALIAN ORMOLU-MOUNTED EBONY, EBONIZED, ROSEWOOD, MARBLE, PIETRA DURA AND PIETRA PAESINA-INLAID CABINET ON LATER STAND 17TH CENTURY, PROBABLY FLORENCE, THE STAND 19TH CENTURY AND INSET WITH THREE 17TH CENTURY PIETRA PAESINA PANELS The rectangular cabinet with two ranges of double-paneled drawers inset with town scenes in pietra paesina and pietra dura , flanking a central cupboard door with fior di pesco marble pediment enclosing three drawers and further enclosing two secret compartments (one now lacking), further flanked by giallo antico columns, resting on double lion-cast feet the later ebony-veneered rectangular base with three pietra paesina panels, two depicting dogs playing and with a central genre scene, with a scrolling x-stretcher inlaid with a porfido verde marble, one drawer with remains of a blue-bordered label inscribed in ink 18708 , and remains of a further blue-bordered paper label to underside 71.5 in.
