An Important Platinum, Burmese Star Sapphire and Diamond Ring, Raymond Yard, containing one oval cabochon cut star sapphire measuring approximately 21.60 x 20.10 x 10.08 mm, together with six tapered baguette cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.49 carat total and 20 round single cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.14 carat total. Stamp: Yard. Accompanied by an American Gemological Laboratories sapphire identification and origin certificate number CS 68524, dated June 24, 2015, stating Mineral Type: Natural Corundum, Variety: Sapphire, Origin: Burma (Myanmar), Enhancement: No indications of heat enhancement, Clarity Enhancement: None. 10.60 dwts. Estimate $ 15,000-20,000 The sapphire clarity is translucent due to a fairly even distribution of rutile needles (causing the asterism/star). Minor to moderate color zoning is present due to greater and lesser concentrations of rutile in areas of the stone. The star displays readily in proper lighting or sunlight and moves well across the medium height dome of the cabochon. Some rays/legs are less distinct and/or complete than others and some waviness is apparent as the star moves (as shown above). The quality of the star would be graded as moderate to good by the gemologist.
