An important and historic file of correspondence relating to Denis Follows, Secretary of the Football Association at the time of the 1966 World Cup, providing a fascinating insight into the detailed planning for the tournament and containing some outstanding and historic documents for English football including: THE ORIGINAL FIFA INVITATION TO THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION TO HOST THE 1966 WORLD CUP A RECEIPT FOR ENGLAND'S ENTRY FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 1966 WORLD CUP, CHF 1,000 THE OFFICIAL LIST OF THE 22 SQUAD PLAYERS ENGLAND SUBMITTED TO FIFA FOR THE TOURNAMENT A PRE-TOURNAMENT LETTER SENT TO FIFA CONFIRMING THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CLASH OF COLOURS, ENGLAND WILL WEAR RED SHIRTS, WHITE SHORTS & RED STOCKINGS DOCUMENTS RELATING TO THE PROCESS OF NAMING 40 PLAYERS, REDUCED TO 28 PLAYERS AND THE FINAL 22-MAN SQUAD A RARE PROGRAMME OF ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE OPENING CEREMONY AND OPENING MATCH ENGLAND v URUGUAY 11th JULY 1966 A STIFFLY WORDED LETTER FROM FIFA WARNING THE F.A. ABOUT THE FUTURE CONDUCT OF NOBBY STILES WHO, IN THEIR OPINION, SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT OFF FOR VIOLENT CONDUCT IN THE FRANCE MATCH, RATHER THAN JUST HAVE BEEN BOOKED A QTY. OF CONGRATULATORY LETTERS & TELEGRAMS TO ALF RAMSEY AND THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION ON THE WORLD CUP VICTORY, INCLUDING ONE FROM THE SCOTTISH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION CONGRATULATING THEIR ENGLISH COUNTERPARTS, ALBEIT WITH A SMALL CAVEAT INSERTED ! the file containing many other interesting entries (a qty.) Denis Follows (1908-1983) was a highly successful and influential British sports administrator and Secretary of the Football Association between 1962 and 1975, and from 1977 he was Chairman of the British Olympic Association. He was awarded the CBE in 1967 and knighted in 1978.
