AN EXTREMELY RARE IRON HEADED PUTTER CIRCA 1800 Blacksmith forged, this weighty club has a very thick sole/blade; it has a plain and slightly concave face; its long oval shaped hosel has sharp knurling to its top and is secured by a sturdy flat nail either side. The shading to the top of the shaft indicates where the original leather grip would have been. Such an iconic traditional hand forged iron headed putter is similar in style and quality to the Royal Blackheath putter and has all the characteristics of a late 18th /early 19th century putter. This wonderful club is fresh to the market and is one of a very select band of the very early putters, maybe no more than 10 extant, 34 inches length, 629g (1.4lbs) in weight, 5¼ inch hosel, club head 3½ long, 1 3/8 deep and ½ inch thick.
