Significant early study of Egyptian myths and chronology, with comparisons to Greek and Indian and Greek myths, together with Pritchard's interpretation of the hieroglyphic alphabet. A major figure in the history of anthropology, Pritchard held that all of mankind had the same primeval history. There was also another 1819 edition, published by J. & A. Arch; no priority has been determined, but the present edition is much scarcer. Formerly in the Mercantile Library of New York, with old rubberstamps to frontispiece, title page and a few other places. Lot Amendments Condition: Some soiling to title page, corner of frontispiece a bit chipped; short cuts to lower margins of preliminary leaves; lower corners of engraved plates dampstained slightly affected some of the images; overall very good.
