Benson, 62-64 Ludgate Hill, London, by special warrants to H M the Queen and HRH the Prince of Wales’ and numbered ‘115781’, the plain case with gold cuvette, hallmarked for London, 1896, the 18ct gold belcher-link Albert chain, hallmarked, with swivel terminal and T-bar, suspending an 18ct gold twin sovereign case, inscribed to the lid, together with further accessories (af), watch diameter 53mm, chain length 38cm. £2200-2500 Condition Report The dial has the finest of hairlines at 11-12 o’clock. The glass shows minimal wear. The movement looks fine and runs when wound but remains untested for timekeeping. The case show general surface wear all over. Gross weight of watch 143gm. The chain is nice and solid, and showing surface wear only; weight of chain 48gm. The sovereign case is quite worn, the inscription to the lid ‘Dundas, from Fred’ is almost illegible, dimensions 53mm x 31mm x 15mm, to plain suspensory loop, weight 40gm, the sovereign case is not detachable from the chain. The remaining attachments: a penknife, a cigar cutter and a pair of lorgnettes are all damaged.
