New York: Elizabeth Ann Guild, Inc., 1927. 8vo, printed green cloth, gilt front and spine, 439pp. The story of Warren G. Harding's daughter born to his mistresses, Nan Britton. Harding had been supporting the infant until his unexpected death at the age of 57. The Harding family did not believe the child was his, thinking him infertile after a case of the mumps, and so refused her support. Britton always claimed that she wrote this book to generate income to support herself and her daughter. (Later, letters between Harding and another mistress, Carrie Phillips, came to light, but Britton had destroyed all of Harding's letters to her, per his request.) There were attempts to ban the distribution of this book, unsuccessful. There were also attempts to discredit Britton that were successful, although they did not quell the country's appetite for a good scandal. Condition: Bush in excellent condition. Carter excellent. Some sunning of spine, otherwise appears unread. Britton a bit worn, shelf wear and wear to spine ends; light toning, a bit darker on the top edges of pages.
