Traduite de l'anglais [...] et augmentée de la Suite des révolutions de ces colonies depuis jusqu'à ce jour. Par Sétier. Paris, Leroi (printed by Fain), 3 vol., 8vo: [4]-xii-[4]-vi-[4]-pp. (table of contents missing in vol. some minor spotting and foxing). Contemp. half olive calf signed "Schultes R[elieur] du Roy", gold- and blind-tooled spines with wide raised bands, midnight blue morocco title- and vol. number labels, marbled edges. Nice copy. Reprint of Sétier's French translation (1st ed.: P., Kilian, under the title "Relation historique et descriptive d'un séjour de vingt ans dans l'Amérique du Sud, ou Voyage en Araucanie [...]", same collation as the Leroi edition, which indicates above the date of printing "Publié en 1828"). The original English edition was published in in Liverpool under the title "A historical and descriptive narrative of twenty years' residence in South America". Stevenson (1787?- after arrived in Araucania (Chile) in In he became private secretary to Count Ruiz de Castilla, president of the Royal Audience of Quito, and later to Lord Thomas Cochrane, vice-admiral of the Chilean Navy. After spending twenty years in South America, he returned to England in but returned to Peru towards the end of Well preserved binding by François-Bernard Schultes (1792-1846), originally from Cologne, active in Brussels (Rue de Ruysbroek) from the onwards, bookbinder to the King and the court at the end of his career.
