'Stump used in first Test match at Durban, Dec[ember] 1948. England won by 1 wicket'. Signed by Bedser below the inscription. The stump has been split and hinged and the stump halves are signed by members of both teams. To one side sixteen signatures of the English team and to the other twelve signatures of the South African team. Signatures include Mann, Griffith, Compton, Bedser, Washbrook, Simpson, Hutton, Jenkins, Crapp, Evans, Wright, Nourse, Mitchell, Rowan, Viljeon, McCarthy, Cheetham, Begbie, Mann etc. Some wear and ageing to the label, the stump and signatures in good condition
