Album with red lacquer covers painted in colors with landscape scenes. The upper cover has three carved ivory cranes onlaid amidst bamboo and blossoms; the lower cover shows a fan and box in blossoming branches, with two insects with mother-of-pearl bodies. All edges gilt. Lovely album in the ornate lacquer covers. The photographs depict various scenes around Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Nikko, including Ueno, Fujiyama, temples, gardens, tea-houses, Hakone, market-places, and women in scenes of singing, instrument-playing, and coiffure. The hand-coloring is bright. Lot Amendments Condition: Album with new black leather spine (sympathetic), few little chips and light grazes, hinges repaired and new Japanese hand-made paper endpapers; some foxing (mostly to mounts but also palely in photographs), final album leaf with corner cut away just touching photograph, a very few small adhesions; overall, about near fine.
