Born in New York City to French parents, Andrée Ruellon (1905-2006) is often associated with the art colony at Woodstock, New York. She and Adolf Dehn both exhibited at Weyhe Gallery in New York, and they may have known one another from there, but the year 1926 would have found both artists working in Paris, the likely location for this portrait sketch.
