A well engineered 5 inch gauge ‘De Winton’ 0-4-0 Locomotive, built by the late Mr Vic Doswell of Taunton. The locomotive with vertical boiler having wooden cladding and brass banding, fitted pressure gauge, sight glass, safety valve, central mounted brass water tank, hand feed pump, drain cocks. The twin simple steam engine being cross-mounted with Stephenson’s reverse gear. The model finished in red and black with fitted buffers and safety rail. Length 54cm. Width 24cm. Height to top of boiler 34cm. * De Winton & Co (1854-1901) were engineers in Caernarfon Wales. They built vertical boiler narrow gauge locomotives for use in Welsh slate mines and other industrial settings. At least six De Winton locomotives have been preserved.
