A Victorian two-day marine chronometer Thomas S. Cogdon, London, circa 1880 and later The four pillar full-plate single chain fusee movement with spotted plates, Harrison's maintaining power and Earnshaw type spring detent escapement regulated by split bimetallic balance with circular timing weights and helical balance spring with faceted diamond endstone, the rear of the dial plate stamped 5416, the 3.5 inch circular silvered Roman numeral dial with gilt spade hands, subsidiary seconds and power reserve dials, and inscribed THO'S S. COGDON, Dalston, London, No., 5146 to centre, set in a lacquered brass bowl with screw-down bezel mounted within pivoted gimbals with locking screw, now in a later mahogany two tier box with glazed panel to top, (balance staff top pivot broken), 18cm (7.125ins) wide. A Thomas Samuel Cogdon and Son are recorded in Loomes, Brian Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World, Volume 2 as working in London circa 1881.
