A Victorian brass-inlaid coromandel marine chronometer desk timepiece Grohé, London, No. 4378. Circa 1870 The silvered dial with Roman chapters and gold hands, signed GROHÉ H.W. TYPKE, SUCCESSOR, 24. Wigmore St. London. , subsidiary dials for up-down marked 1-8, subsidiary seconds at VI numbered in the centre 4378 , the movement with spotted plates, reversed fusee within the main assembly with three large pillars with blued steel screws, the sub-assembly carrying the rest of the train with diamond endstone to cut bimetallic balance with circular heat compensation weights and blued steel helical spring, Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement with jewelled locking stone, lacquered brass bowl, the purpose-made brass-inlaid display case with recessed drop handles to the sides, large brass-framed portal to the top lid, the chronometer resting within a blue velvet central recess, hinged door to the base 7½ in. x 7½ in. x 4¼ in. (19 cm. x 19 cm. x 11 cm.) box
