A SUPERB AND EXTREMELY RARE TURQUOISE-INLAID GOLD OPENWORK CHAPE NORTHWEST CHINA, LATE 6TH-EARLY 5TH CENTURY BC This chape is finely decorated on each side in a complex openwork design of eleven interlaced serpents within a border of stylized bird-heads that rise from small animal heads with turquoise inlay at the bottom corners that flank a band of volutes on each side.
