A square piano by Broadwood, London, 1825/6 The mahogany case with ebony inlaid rounded front corners, cross-banded with rosewood and inlaid with ebony stringing. Bobbin-turned moulding running above the skirting, raised on six turned and reeded legs. The curved nameboard veneered in rosewood with foliate brass inlay, and two pierced panels in brass. Two boxwood plaques with the inscription: Patent, John Broadwood & Sons, Makers to His Majesty & the Princesses, Great Pulteney Street, Golden Square, London. The six octave keyboard FF–f4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Double action with mop-stick over-dampers controlled by the original pedal. Soundboard with divided bridge. Serial number 31476 Width 173cm, depth 67cm, case height including lid and leg blocks 30cm.
