A square piano by Broadwood, London, 1787 The mahogany case cross-banded with satinwood and inlaid with rope-twist stringing, raised on a frame stand veneered en suite, brass castors and paterae. Shelf underneath. The keywell cross-banded in maple with geometric stringing, the nameboard bearing the inscription: Johannes Broadwood Londini Fecit 1787 Patent, Great Pulteney Street Golden Square. The five octave keyboard FF–f3 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. English single action with brass under-dampers. Bearing a paper label in English and French on the inside of the spine giving instruction on how to deal with keys that stick and dampers that rattle.
