Beschreibung:

A pair of Chinese Kangxi style famille verte 'Flower garden' bowls, of deep u-form and subtly flaring rim, the frontal panel enamelled with a full bloom flower garden, including peony, prunus, chrysanthemum branches and bamboo stalks issuing from green enamelled pierced rockwork, each flower and plant represents a season of the year, the oval panel at the back with a poem signed 'Tian Yu', 19thC (Kangxi revival), ø 20,2 - H 9,5 cm
The poem at the back describes a painter creating a scene of spring, echoing the vivid imagery of the frontal panel:
"How the moment it's lifted, the brush gives birth to a scented spring!
Which makes butterflies and bees look for the blossoms non-existing.
The few shapely bamboo trees behind the branches are standing tall.
Oh, they bring such a cool breeze in August that fills the thatched hall!"
A similar bowl of the Kangxi period was exhibited in the Minneapolis Institute, L77.115.179, lent by Gallery R.M. Chait, New York
