A SET OF TWENTY-FOUR GEORGE III IRISH SILVER DINNER PLATES MARK OF ROBERT CALDERWOOD DUBLIN, CIRCA 1760 Shaped circular, with a gadrooned border, the rim engraved with a coat-of-arms and a later crest and Earl's coronet, each marked with maker's mark only on reverse and with numbers and scratchweights 9¼ in. (23.5 cm.) diameter; 372 oz. 10 dwt. (11,597 gr.) The arms are those of Acheson impaling Richardson, for Sir Archibald Acheson (1718-1806), and his wife Mary, daughter of Joseph Richardson, of Rich Hill, County Armagh, whom he married in 1740. In 1776, he was created Baron Gosford of Market Hill, County Armagh, and in 1785 advanced to Viscount Gosford. His son was created Earl of Gosford in 1806. (24)
